Organized Laundry Room Reveal {small Home/ BIG Ideas}
Don’t you love looking into other peoples’ homes to see how they live?
Of course you do, or you wouldn’t be here.
You’ll hear me say it a million times. Our house is small. We have five humans (three adult-size and two fun-size) crammed into 1644 square feet.
I love our small house. We have great neighbors, privacy, and a mortgage that doesn’t force us to eat fried Spam three days a week. I’m having flash backs to my childhood. I forgive you, Mom.

- The top row: cake pans and party supplies.
- Middle row: light bulbs, air fresheners and lonely socks.
- Bottom row: play dough/paint, miscellaneous stuff , cleaning rags, and tape & twine.
- In the galvanized bins are dryer sheets, pet food, and trash bags. I got the idea for the bins from this pin that links back to Traci’s pantry bins from Beneath My Heart.
- Here is the link for the chalkboard labels that I made for the baskets.
A few people have wanted to know how the metal bins are hung on the wall. I used a regular drill bit to make the holes for the screws.
Galvanized Bins
My favorite thing in here is the idea/bulletin board that I made. It was inspired by the one that Ballard Designs sells for $149.00. It’s just a salvaged frame with cork board tiles glued to a piece of plywood.
With three boys and a husband who is a landscaper, I spend a lot of time in here. It’s nice to have something pretty to look at and it hides the fuse box.
While you’re here, leave a comment and tell me how you’ve organized a small laundry room. I love to get new ideas!
Oh, by the way, we have lived here since 1998, so the changes we’ve made in here have been done a little bit at a time. I couldn’t have done all of this in week or even in a month, believe me!

Wow! You call a 1,644 sq house small? That is plenty of room and it is fine for 5 people. Try houses in Europe and other countries, that would be a palace there. If you have too much stuff and don’t declutter often that is the root of feeling crammed and cramped.
Hi! Where is the dryer? I also have 3 feet to work with and wanted to see how it’s all laid out. Thank you!!!
Thank you so much for the ideas! I have a very narrow utility room and I wanted more storage – so you’ve given me some direction that solves some of the issues there. I love the baskets on shelves idea.
It’s been a while since you first posted this. I’m wondering if you’ve made any changes? I also want to know how you hang your silver pieces!!
I seriously love this! Our laundry room / pantry / tool storage / random storage is about the same size and I just love what you have done! I realize baskets can be bought all over…but where did you find these? Thanks so much for the inspiring idea!!
Hi Tricia! I’m not even sure I remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but I am so thankful I did! 🙂 Your laundry room is adorable, I too live in a smaller ranch style house with a bunch of boys 🙂 I was curious if you could tell me where the rug is from in here? I looked for a source, but I may have missed it. Thank you so much, have a wonderful weekend!!! 🙂
Where did you get your shelving for the laundry room. I have some but the space is so small and the shelf takes up so much space that I ended up only with enough space for one. And I desperately need at least two!!
Lovely decorating! You are so talented! On a side note I was surprised that you use air fresheners. They contain the toxic chemicals and hormone disruptors under the guise of “fragrance”. The contents do not have to be disclosed under our archaic “trade secret laws”. Trying to get the word out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_freshener
coming over from traci at organize and inspire. I love this space; don’t be jealous of big ones. Take my word, it’s just more time spent cleaning. the increase is exponential! Really loving the bi-fold to French door transformation.
LOVE your laundry room! I’ve been trying to figure out what to do with a space in my laundry room and I think the shelves and baskets will be perfect! I have a blog too but I’m just starting out with repainting furniture and design ideas! I love your blog. Any advice or words of wisdom would be greatly appreciated!!
Thanks!!
Beautiful and warm. I love it! Thanks for sharing. I’ve looked EVERYWHERE for those bins… would you mind letting me know where you found them? Thanks again.
Hi Ceci,
I just sent you an email. Let me know if you didn’t get it. Thanks!
Tricia
Do you remember where you got the baskets? I LOVE them but can’t find anything like those anywhere?
Cindy
Hi Cindy,
Tricia shared these links with me a while back with purchasing info. The first is a wholesaler, and the second a retailer.

Good luck!

Be sure to come see your lovely laundry room featured today on my blog! In the post “all things laundry – Roundup”! 🙂

Rhoda from Southern Hospitality is a precious friend of mine and I found your blog through her! Love love love this laundry room! And the fuse box cover is incredible. Just showed my husband this and we’re gonna work on that!
Hi, Vonda! Rhoda is such a sweet lady and so down to earth! I’m so glad I could give you an idea for your laundry room!
Hi. Just discovered your blog at Fox Hollow Cottage so I will follow! Your laundry is very pretty and you have coordinated it all so well. It’s amazing what you can do with a small space, great imagination and good shops to purchase stuff from! I collect paint too, and I love that you put yours so nicely (and reverently!!!) behind a pretty curtain! 🙂
Hi Petra! Isn’t Shannon a sweetheart? I’m so glad you stopped by! It’s good to hear that someone else shares my painting addiction. 🙂 It’s what I’ve been doing all day matter of fact!
Tricia,
I love this makeover! I went to look for those galvanized tubs and found the site and the ones I wanted but when I went to register it is asking for a tax ID # as a business. Did you have to do this? I don’t have one, but really want to order some. HOw many do you have to order in wholesale at one time? Maybe I could see if some of my friends want to get some too.
When you get a minute, please let me know 🙂
xx,
Jennifer
Hey Jennifer! I just sent you an email!
Your laundry room is beautiful – I love it!! You did a great job. I was wondering if you would mind sharing the paint color on the walls? It’s so pretty. I apologize if you’ve already answered that question somewhere {I may have missed it}. Have a great day!
I haven’t posted the color yet, but I’m in the process of doing that (along with a source list) in my home tour. The paint is Behr’s Gray Morning 490F-4. I also painted a piece of furniture with it, so you can see what it looks like in natural light. If you scroll to the last photo in this post, https://www.simplicityinthesouth.com/2012/11/natural-boxwood-wreath-tutorial.html you’ll see the chest of drawers in the same color, but it looks much different. It’s a really pretty gray-blue in person.
Thank you so much Tricia! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer so quickly. I’m going to go check out the blog post with the chest of drawers. You have a wonderful blog. Happy Sunday to you and thanks again!
God Bless,
Kathleen
Your laundry room is gorgeous! You did a great job with a small space. {Pat on the back.}
I too live in a smaller home, but love the almost clear mortgage. My husband has wanted to buy or build me a new home with more square feet, although it was sweet of him, I have chosen to stay put. I will admit that there have been times I have become frustrated by space limitations, until I realized I needed to work around those limitations. Sometimes we have to think outside the box, or become more organized. I love your organization in the utility room.
Hi. Shonda! I totally agree. You and I are thinking alike! We looked at newer homes that were more expensive and then we looked into fixer uppers that were more along the lines of our budget. But when it came down to it, we realized we didn’t need to live in a bigger home, we just needed to make our home work better for us. I’m so we stayed put.
Can’t find those pretty baskets from IKEA’s website.
Hi! I’m hoping they are still for sale! The square baskets are called Branas. Here is the link: http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/00138432/
Aww thanks I saw those but thought they were larger. THANK you so much Tricia!
You’re welcome!
Hello from another small space Mom.
Great job! And yes I like to see what others are doing. :o)
I have 7 children and a husband a home that is almost the same size as yours. Let creativity abound.
Wow! I commend you! Not only for living in a house the same size with 9 people, but for also raising 7 children! That is awesome!
Are the baskets from ikea? They are very nice.
Yes, they’re from Ikea! The top row is from Sam’s Club and the middle row baskets are from Dollar General. They just happen to match.
This is wonderful! It has inspired me to start thinking about my own laundry room! I love the labels and those tins are awesome! I can’t wait for the tutorials of how you did the chalkboard labels!
Hi Danielle! I just realized that I did not add the link to the chalkboard tags until I saw your comment. I just added the link to the post, but here is the direct link: http://simplicityinthesouth.blogspot.com/2012/09/make-your-own-chalkboard-tags.html Thanks for visiting my blog!
Thank you, Comeca!
Lovely!
Loved this post! I had to laugh when you said, “You’re trying to read the labels…” I had *just* pinched back in on the screen and turned ny head upright– you nailed it. I’m looking forward to more great content. Thanks for blogging.
Ha! Ha! I’m sooo guilty of it too! I’m glad I’m not the only one who does that! Glad you like my laundry room and thanks for visting!
I would love to know how you turned the bi-fold door into french doors. That is exactly what I need for my laundry room.
Hey Shannon! Here is the link to how I turned the bi-fold door into french doors: http://simplicityinthesouth.blogspot.com/2012/09/small-home-big-ideas-turn-bifold-door.html
I have a small laudry also, I love the shelves and the curtain. I have thought about a curtain, but wasn’t sure if that would work. Thanks for showing me it looks awesome! Can’t wait now to fix my laudry up with shelves and a curtain! Great Job, Hugs, Lynn

I absolutely LOVE your laundry room. I love what you did for the baskets and especially the little tubs. Where did you purchase them?
So glad I found you through the mercury glass shades and have subscribed to your feed.
Aw, thank you! 🙂 Here is the exact link: galvanized bins. I’ve also seen them in Hobby Lobby. They have the 1/2 price on everything that’s metal now and then. Thanks for subscribing!

I don’t know what you are dreaming for………… your laundry room is awesome & I love your organizing. Where are your galvanized bins from (trash bags, etc)? Love them screwed to the wall and they are the perfect shape/size.
Aw, thank you! 🙂 Here is the exact link: galvanized bins. I did a post today on how to decoupage pails with fabric. These make good pails for teacher’s gifts! http://simplicityinthesouth.blogspot.com/2012/09/tutorial-how-to-decoupage-galvanized.html
Ok, you’ve inspired me. everyone I know has a large redecorated laundry room and mine is small like yours and you did a gorgeous fab job. K, now I have work to do. Hugs!!
Jen @ http://www.beachmonkeys.net
Thanks, Jen! I know, I’m so jealous of all the people who have these huge laundry rooms, mud rooms, and walk in closets! But I’m working on making due with what God has blessed us with. I’m glad you stopped by!
wow! I love this.
I don’t know if you have an older home or what… but years ago… LIKE forever ago…the first little house we rented had a laundry room like this. I would of loved to done laundry in that room– IF. IT. LOOKED. LIKE. YOURS.~~~ So pretty.
Heck…I’d love it if my current laundry room looked this sweet.
…good job,Pat (via, FJI)
I’m glad you like it, Pat! Our house was built in 1985, but I’m trying my hardest to make it look like a 1920’s cottage. We’re slowly getting there!
How pretty! And goodness how I love that basket storage!
Donna
Thank you, Donna! I’ve been a follower of your blog for a long time. So, the fact that I’m an itty bitty blog and I am getting a compliment from you, I feel honored.
I would really like to see a tutorial on how to cover buckets & galvanized bins. I’d like to try and make those for teacher gifts!
thanks
Sure! I’m making one for a shower gift next week, so I will post it soon after that.
Found your blog from Remodelaholic linky party and your laundry space is very nice! I’m a new follower and would love to have you come over and link up at Sunday Blog Love this weekend. Wishing you a wonderful weekend and fun as you enter into bloggy world!
Thanks for the invite! I’m heading your way now!
As I expected, I LOVE it! I especially like that you used three different styles of baskets but all the same color. Gives it a lot more interest but is very cohesive. The metal bins on the walls are adorable! How did you attach them?
I think I might be able to stay on top of my laundry if my laundry room was this pretty because I’d be spending a lot of time in there!
Glad you like it! I got lucky with the baskets! I’m going to add a picture above so you can see how the metal bins are hung. I used a drill bit to get the holes in the bin. And then they are screwed into plastic wall anchors.
WOW!! Love this! I like your room better than your “dream room.” I’m going to use your curtain trip for my shelving above my washer/dryer. Great job!!
Thank you! I love it when I can give someone some inspiration to use their own home. Glad you stopped by!
That is a beautiful laundry room. I love the curtain to hide the stuff on the shelves. That first laundry room is amazing, but I think yours is a lot more friendly!
Thanks! A girl can still dream of one day folding clothes without hitting her elbows on the walls. Lol! But I do love my space! Thanks for stopping by!
Looks like a great use of space! I love all the labels!
Thanks,Shawna!I’m planning on doing a tutorial on how to make the labels soon.
Looks great! That curtain is a perfect hiding place for all the paint.
Smile, Nancy
Thanks!
Love your great laundry space! You did a fantastic job organizing such a small space. Everything is neat and tidy and has its specific place. Thanks for the inspiration!
Thanks, Amy! I’m following your blog now. I love that you are flipping houses. It’s something that I’d like to do if I had the time and money.
