Living in a smaller home poses many challenges. Our master bathroom is only 5′ X 8′ so it’s a good thing Mr. Simplicity and I work opposite shifts. Otherwise, he’d be getting the accidental elbow to the abdomen every morning. And I feel lucky that he’s not a high-maintenance-kind-of-guy since this semi-high-maintenance-girl has taken over almost every nook and cranny with my stuff. Even if you don’t have a small bathroom, I’m pretty sure there are a few of you that are looking for ways to corral those drawers-full of beauty products and tools. Since parting with my makeup is not going to happen in this decade, I was excited to find a makeup organization solution inspired by a craft project from the July issue of All You magazine!
I’ve been a fan All You magazine ever since one of my friends told me about all the coupons she finds in there. I love their time and money-saving tips, simple recipes and inexpensive decorating ideas. Having 3 boys with one going to college this year, I need all the budget-savvy tips I can get!
The only store I’ve been able to buy All You magazine was Wal-mart, but on a recent shopping trip to pick up some magazines for our beach vacation, I found it at my favorite grocery store, Bi-lo. Win! Win! Bi-lo is just one of the many stores that now carries All You. To find a nearby store to pick up a copy for yourself along with a $1.00 off coupon, click here.
All You started a new section this month called Take This, Make That. They challenged two talented bloggers to take an item and put their own spin on repurposing it into something functional and pretty. This month, the item repurposed was a tin can. This got the wheels turning so I challenged myself to create a makeup organizer using fabric covered cans. The best part was that I didn’t have to leave the house to make them since I had everything on hand.
Supplies you’ll need:
Tin Cans (After removing the label, I ran them through the dishwasher)
Scrap Fabric
Mod Podge
Paint brush or foam brush
A pair of pliers if you need to flatten the sharp edges of the can.
Razor or Exacto Knife
The steps are very similar to the fabric-covered galvanized bucket tutorial. The easiest fabric to use for this type of project is quilting fabric since it’s so thin. Plus, there’s so many fun and colorful prints to choose from.
Cut enough fabric to wrap around the can with a 1/2″ overlap for the top and bottom. Coat the outside of the can with a layer of Mod Podge then lay your fabric on top. Cover the outside of the can with another layer of Mod Podge. Be sure to smooth out any air pockets underneath the fabric.
I’m guilty of pulling out the hair dryer at this point to speed up the drying process. Once the glue is fully dry, you can trim off the excess with a razor blade.(Please be careful!)
With a house full of boys, a girl needs a little something pretty and pink in her life, so I sneak it in with every opportunity. Bonuses for something pretty that keeps me organized.
I’ll be sharing more ideas on how I keep the rest our bathroom organized in another post. It’s the only room I’ve been able to keep the boys out of this summer so I’ve been able to finish up some projects the past couple of weeks. It’s been nice to have one Lego-free-zone in the house the past month. 🙂
Are you short on storage space in your bathroom, too? I’d love to hear tips you have on getting and keeping it organized!

Thank you so much for this post., its awesome. Our little one now has so many containers for her art stuff. Love the fact that its basically cost me nothing. I featured this on my blog, hope you dont mind. Linked the tutorial to your site. I just wanted all my girls to know that they could make something out of almost nothing, and of course my love for Modge Podge. Thank you. This actually inspired me to blog about my experiences on Pinterest. If something worked for me or not, and this was very helpful. Thank you!

In fact no matter if someone doesn’t know then its up to other
visitors that they will assist, so here it occurs.

Instead of paying others for sessions, students can treat
themselves as needed. If you’re looking for a Reiki Master and are willing to enroll
in a Reiki school, here are the things that you have to know before enlisting:
. Allow her aura into the deepest aspects of your being on all levels in all ways And you begin to realise just
how amazing, just how loving this Divine Goddess is Gaia –
your loving earth mother Gaia – giver of life, healer and you begin to feel
great love for her Feeling her loving hands comb through your energy, pulling away the darkness there You open up
to her healing hands as you give her love, Express love to her, express
love for her You feel yourself moving deep into her heart As
she opens her heart to receive your love and you open your
heart to receive her love.

Very cute and innovative! I’ve been thinking of updating my makeup storage for a while. I’ve used a little glass container and vase filler for a few years now, but the vase filler gets everywhere and it isn’t very pretty.
Thanks for the inspiration!

I love this idea. My sewing area could use some organization and I have tons of cute scraps. Looks easy enough to do. Thanks so much!
