My Easter Decor, a Turquoise Chalkboard Frame & Why I’m So Blue

Chalkboard Projects· DIY Projects· Inspiration· Paint Transformations· Seasonal Decorating Ideas

Spring or Easter display and a bunny boxwood wreath

I really tried to wait before showing you the pictures of my Easter decor. I really did.

I had all intentions of showing you one sneak peek DIY project at a time.

But the tutorial on how to age flower pots will have to wait…

Tulips in an aged flower pot. Spring decor.

Aged terra cotta pot and a jute twine covered letter

…and so will the instructions on the bunny boxwood wreath.

Bunny boxwood wreath

You see, I have the patience of a toddler in a grocery store (sans the temper tantrums).

Spring glass cloche

Unlike a toddler, I like to share. I just couldn’t wait another day to share what I’ve been up to.

Easter or Spring decoration

Progress has been made on the board and batten hallway redo. My husband and I have made plans for a “DIY date” so we can build the gallery shelves and the air return cover together.

board and batten hallway in progress

The work on the hallway was held up a couple of days because Mother Nature brought us our first (and probably only) snow fall of the season. It just happened to be on my birthday!

1st snowfall 2013

I should have relaxed my birthday weekend, but decided to take a hand-me-down picture frame from my Nannie and give it a little transformation. This is what I started with.

frame before

I took the picture out of the frame and gave the frame a good cleaning with mineral spirits. I painted it with primer and finished the frame with a coat of Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint in Provence. The picture was spray painted with flat black spray paint. Don’t worry! It wasn’t an expensive piece of artwork. Although, it is priceless since my Nannie gave it to me. I think my crafty Nannie would have been proud.

Spring or Easter decor

Have you noticed that I have an affinity for the color turquoise? There is a reason why I use the color blue so much in my home. You see, four years ago on Easter weekend, I found out that I had a half-sister that lived in Austin, Texas. This is my beautiful, half-sister, Tifani.

Tifani

We found out we had a lot in common, such as our favorite color, turquoise. A year after finding out I had a sister, she lost her battle with cancer. So, the turquoise, or as I like to call it, Tifani Blue, is not totally random. It is a tribute the strongest woman I’ve ever met, my sister, Tifani.

Love the frame redo! Makes me think of some of the old wall art I’ve gotten rid of. Wonder what I could have done with them? I lost a sister to breast cancer four years ago, so I totally understand your special affinity for the love of a color that the two of you shared. Glad you at least got to know one another ~ something to treasure!

Hey Linda! What a coincidence about the pin! I just found out about winning the tickets when I checked my email. I can’t believe it! I texted my husband and told him that me winning the tickets must be Tifani’s way of saying “thank you” from the heavens. ๐Ÿ™‚

What a beautiful tribute to your sister Tricia. I love that you call it Tifani Blue. Cancer is a terrible thing that touches too many of us sadly!! I’m just so glad that you got to meet her before she passed.

I love your vignette…all of it. I look forward to the tutorials. And your hallway is looking fabulous. ๐Ÿ™‚

First of all, I love the bunny wreath, that is just adorable, but the whole display is beautiful.

The story brought tears to my eyes. It’s amazing that you found out about your sister before she died, but so sad you didn’t have more time to spend with her. Tifani blue is such an appropriate name in so many ways.

    Hugs,
    Julie
