5 Minute DIY Faux Canvas Print from a Photo

| |

This faux canvas project falls under the category of “DIY projects for the non-DIY’er”. There are no power tools involved.

No Mod Podge or toxic spray adhesive is needed.

You don’t even need any supplies other than a hammer and a nail to hang your artwork on the wall. Everything you need to put it together is included in the package.

Not only that, but you can have this project done in less from 5 minutes from the time you unpack it and assemble it. And it’s super affordable!

How cool is that?

Let me back up and tell you how this project for having custom artwork for our guest room makeover began.

I originally planned on making my own artwork by printing and mounting a photo I downloaded from Etsy onto foam board with spray adhesive. Then, I would build a frame to mount it to.

Unfortunately, that ended up being a fail. The print had so many bubbles, I knew it just wasn’t gonna to work.

Not all projects go as planned so we move on to plan B. No biggy, right?

So, plan B was to find a company that could print a photo onto canvas since that would be easier to work with than paper. Canvas is less glossy than a poster print so it wouldn’t show as many imperfections.

In the process of finding a company that could print photos onto a canvas, I found a really easy and inexpensive alternative. The best part is that I could put it together in no time.

It’s “faux canvas” using any high-resolution photograph that has the look of real canvas artwork at a fraction of the cost. A stretched canvas would’ve cost about 3 times as much.

The company I found was Zazzle. I’ve used them before so I know they’re turnaround time and quality is topnotch.

By the way, this isn’t a sponsored post. If I wasn’t a blogger, I would be just as excited to share this with my BFF.

So, the first step is finding the right kind of photo to print. Depending on your finished size, you want to make sure the resolution is high enough to print on a large canvas. The photograph I chose from Green Life Prints on Etsy could be downloaded in the correct resolution, no problem.

TIP: If you want a different type of picture to download on Etsy, put the words “digital download photography” in the search box. This would also be a great way to display family photographs.

Then, I uploaded the picture to Zazzle as a 36″ x 24″ print on the link for the faux canvas. You can go as small as 10″ x 10″. Make sure you take advantage of the coupon codes they always have available.

The faux canvas print came with instructions on how to assemble it along with double-sided sticky tape.

It was as easy as just putting the included double-sided sticky tape on the corners.

And joining the mitered corners together.

In less than 5 minutes from the time I unpacked it, I had the faux canvas ready to hang on the wall. As an added bonus, they put a notch on the back so it’s easy to keep it in place.

Looking from the side, you can see the texture that’s very similar to what a real stretched canvas would look like.
