DIY Wooden Vase Holder Idea Dollar Tree Crafts.

Can you believe the first day of summer is less than a month away?

This is the last week of school for my boys, so I’ll be spending the rest of this week doing some late spring cleaning and some early decorating for summer. You can see where my priorities are. 😉

There’s nothing like bringing in fresh flowers to make your home feel like summer has arrived. I’ve been looking for some vintage-inspired milk bottles to hold flowers and was excited to see that Dollar Tree now carries them. The first time I found the milk bottles, they were in the vase section but when I went back to get more, they were in the section with the glasses. If you can’t find the milk bottle vases in the store, you can order them online. I added the link below in the supply list.

I used three of the milk bottles to make a simple and inexpensive DIY vase holder. This would make a beautiful centerpiece for a wedding reception or on an outdoor dining table if you use exterior paint. I placed mine on the mantle in our master bedroom so I can add some color with the peonies in full bloom or with a simple display of ferns.

  • (3) Milk Bottle vases from Dollar Tree
  • 1″ x 4″ board
  • 1-1/4″ brad nails
  • drill with 2-1/2″ hole saw
  • hammer
  • measuring tape
  • nail set
  • wood glue
  • sandpaper
  • paint with primer
  • paint brush

It’s a good idea to choose a soft wood like whitewood board I found at Lowes. It’ll make it easier to drill the holes.

Normally, I would’ve used my chop saw and nail gun, but I wanted to make this a project for someone who’s either just a beginner DIY’er or doesn’t have access to power tools. I was once there, myself.

To make this DIY vase holder project even easier, I made a short video. I’d love for you to subscribe to our Youtube channel here.

Cut your board into (2) 12″ lengths and (2) 4-3/8″ lengths.

Mark the placement of the holes on the center of one of the 12″ boards at 2-1/2″, 6″, and 9-1/2″.

Using the 2-1/2″ hole saw, drill the holes. I had my husband do this because it takes a good bit of strength. It makes it easier if you clamp your board if you’re doing it on your own.

Sand and then paint the pieces of wood with 2 coats of paint with primer included. Allow the paint to dry. Leave the wood unpainted where the glue will be placed. It gives better adhesion.

Place wood glue where your sides and bottom boards will be attached and then nail them using the 1-1/4″ brad nails. Countersink them with the nail set.

Place your vases in the holes. Apply glue where the sides and top will be attached, nail in place, and countersink the nails.

Fill the nail holes with wood filler and touch up the paint.

I also added a little distressing with some watered down black craft paint.
