Painted Pinecone Garland {A Simple Christmas Craft Project}

| | |

As promised, I’m sharing how I made the painted pinecone garland that I showed you in my Simple Christmas Vignette post.

With Christmas only 11 days away, any decorating project from here on out must have the following criteria: minimal effort, time and expense.

The only supplies you need are pinecones, spray primer, spray paint, jute twine, and hot glue.

Directions:

Before painting, the pinecones need to be completely dry and free of bugs. {Yes…bugs. This is why we have a fake Christmas tree. Long story, but it involves an emotionally traumatic event with an eight-legged creature. I digress.}

Allison of House of Hepworths shared this post on how to debug pine cones by baking them in a 200-degree oven for 45 minutes. I also put them on a pan that was lined with aluminum foil.

I let the pinecones cool and then primed them with a white spray primer. Don’t skip the primer! I tried to skip the primer on my first attempt and it took four coats of spray paint whereas the primed pine cones only took two coats.

I let the paint dry for a couple of hours and then attached them to the twine with hot glue.

Then I measured and spaced the next one to two inches apart.

I love how it brings a bit of color into the vignette!

And it clearly fits my impatient/frugal/ADD decorating personality. What other uses have you seen for painted pinecones?
