Laundry Room organization with baskets

Organized Laundry Room Reveal {small Home/ BIG Ideas}

| | | | | | |
This small laundry room is big on organization ideas! Using baskets, bins, shelves along with hidden storage makes this 28 sq ft laundry room super organized and stylish.

Don’t you love looking into other peoples’ homes to see how they live?

Of course you do, or you wouldn’t be here.

You’ll hear me say it a million times. Our house is small. We have five humans (three adult-size and two fun-size) crammed into 1644 square feet.

I love our small house. We have great neighbors, privacy, and a mortgage that doesn’t force us to eat fried Spam three days a week. I’m having flash backs to my childhood. I forgive you, Mom.

In my dream home, I would have a laundry room like this.

And then I tell myself, “Dream on, sister.”

In reality, our small laundry room is 9.5′ x 3′ wide…just shy of 30 square feet.

Since the laundry room is small, I have to utilize every square inch possible for storage. This means taking advantage of vertical space.

I bet you’re trying to read what is on the chalkboard labels. I would be, too.

Stop squinting and let me tell you what they say.

A few people have wanted to know how the metal bins are hung on the wall. I used a regular drill bit to make the holes for the screws.

Galvanized Bins

On the left side of the laundry room, I keep all of my paint hidden behind a curtain on a tension rod. Here she is, curtainless. I hoard paint, I do confess.

Behind the curtain on the right side of the room, we store the laundry supplies, the crock pot, the pressure cooker, and more party supplies.

Want to see behind that curtain?

Never mind. It is a mess. I have to leave something to the imagination.

Here’s a closer look, instead. I covered the laundry bin and the floral bin with fabric. If would like to know how to make a fabric covered galvanized bin, I have the tutorial here. They make great gift baskets!

My favorite thing in here is the idea/bulletin board that I made. It was inspired by the one that Ballard Designs sells for $149.00. It’s just a salvaged frame with cork board tiles glued to a piece of plywood.

With three boys and a husband who is a landscaper, I spend a lot of time in here. It’s nice to have something pretty to look at and it hides the fuse box.

Otherwise, the fuse box would be staring you in the face!
Blue and green together make me smile! 🙂

I hope you enjoyed peeking inside our laundry room and that you were able to gather some organization inspiration for your own small space!

While you’re here, leave a comment and tell me how you’ve organized a small laundry room. I love to get new ideas!

Oh, by the way, we have lived here since 1998, so the changes we’ve made in here have been done a little bit at a time. I couldn’t have done all of this in week or even in a month, believe me!

  1. Wow! You call a 1,644 sq house small? That is plenty of room and it is fine for 5 people. Try houses in Europe and other countries, that would be a palace there. If you have too much stuff and don’t declutter often that is the root of feeling crammed and cramped.

  2. Hi! Where is the dryer? I also have 3 feet to work with and wanted to see how it’s all laid out. Thank you!!!

I’m not even sure I remember how I stumbled upon your blog, but I am so thankful I did! 🙂 Your laundry room is adorable, I too live in a smaller ranch style house with a bunch of boys 🙂 I was curious if you could tell me where the rug is from in here? I looked for a source, but I may have missed it. Thank you so much, have a wonderful weekend!!! 🙂

  7. Where did you get your shelving for the laundry room. I have some but the space is so small and the shelf takes up so much space that I ended up only with enough space for one. And I desperately need at least two!!

  8. Lovely decorating! You are so talented! On a side note I was surprised that you use air fresheners. They contain the toxic chemicals and hormone disruptors under the guise of “fragrance”. The contents do not have to be disclosed under our archaic “trade secret laws”. Trying to get the word out! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Air_freshener

  9. coming over from traci at organize and inspire. I love this space; don’t be jealous of big ones. Take my word, it’s just more time spent cleaning. the increase is exponential! Really loving the bi-fold to French door transformation.

  15. Tricia,

I love this makeover! I went to look for those galvanized tubs and found the site and the ones I wanted but when I went to register it is asking for a tax ID # as a business. Did you have to do this? I don’t have one, but really want to order some. HOw many do you have to order in wholesale at one time? Maybe I could see if some of my friends want to get some too.

When you get a minute, please let me know 🙂
    xx,
    Jennifer

  16. Your laundry room is beautiful – I love it!! You did a great job. I was wondering if you would mind sharing the paint color on the walls? It’s so pretty. I apologize if you’ve already answered that question somewhere {I may have missed it}. Have a great day!

    1. I haven’t posted the color yet, but I’m in the process of doing that (along with a source list) in my home tour. The paint is Behr’s Gray Morning 490F-4. I also painted a piece of furniture with it, so you can see what it looks like in natural light. If you scroll to the last photo in this post, https://www.simplicityinthesouth.com/2012/11/natural-boxwood-wreath-tutorial.html you’ll see the chest of drawers in the same color, but it looks much different. It’s a really pretty gray-blue in person.

      1. Thank you so much Tricia! I really appreciate you taking the time to answer so quickly. I’m going to go check out the blog post with the chest of drawers. You have a wonderful blog. Happy Sunday to you and thanks again!

        God Bless,
        Kathleen

  17. I too live in a smaller home, but love the almost clear mortgage. My husband has wanted to buy or build me a new home with more square feet, although it was sweet of him, I have chosen to stay put. I will admit that there have been times I have become frustrated by space limitations, until I realized I needed to work around those limitations. Sometimes we have to think outside the box, or become more organized. I love your organization in the utility room.

    1. Hi. Shonda! I totally agree. You and I are thinking alike! We looked at newer homes that were more expensive and then we looked into fixer uppers that were more along the lines of our budget. But when it came down to it, we realized we didn’t need to live in a bigger home, we just needed to make our home work better for us. I’m so we stayed put.

      1. Aww thanks I saw those but thought they were larger. THANK you so much Tricia!

  18. Hello from another small space Mom.

  20. Loved this post! I had to laugh when you said, “You’re trying to read the labels…” I had *just* pinched back in on the screen and turned ny head upright– you nailed it. I’m looking forward to more great content. Thanks for blogging.

  21. I would love to know how you turned the bi-fold door into french doors. That is exactly what I need for my laundry room.

  22. I have a small laudry also, I love the shelves and the curtain. I have thought about a curtain, but wasn’t sure if that would work. Thanks for showing me it looks awesome! Can’t wait now to fix my laudry up with shelves and a curtain! Great Job, Hugs, Lynn

  25. I don’t know what you are dreaming for………… your laundry room is awesome & I love your organizing. Where are your galvanized bins from (trash bags, etc)? Love them screwed to the wall and they are the perfect shape/size.

    1. Thanks, Jen! I know, I’m so jealous of all the people who have these huge laundry rooms, mud rooms, and walk in closets! But I’m working on making due with what God has blessed us with. I’m glad you stopped by!

  26. wow! I love this.
I don’t know if you have an older home or what… but years ago… LIKE forever ago…the first little house we rented had a laundry room like this. I would of loved to done laundry in that room– IF. IT. LOOKED. LIKE. YOURS.~~~ So pretty.

  28. Found your blog from Remodelaholic linky party and your laundry space is very nice! I’m a new follower and would love to have you come over and link up at Sunday Blog Love this weekend. Wishing you a wonderful weekend and fun as you enter into bloggy world!

  29. As I expected, I LOVE it! I especially like that you used three different styles of baskets but all the same color. Gives it a lot more interest but is very cohesive. The metal bins on the walls are adorable! How did you attach them?

I think I might be able to stay on top of my laundry if my laundry room was this pretty because I’d be spending a lot of time in there!

    1. Glad you like it! I got lucky with the baskets! I’m going to add a picture above so you can see how the metal bins are hung. I used a drill bit to get the holes in the bin. And then they are screwed into plastic wall anchors.

  30. WOW!! Love this! I like your room better than your “dream room.” I’m going to use your curtain trip for my shelving above my washer/dryer. Great job!!

  31. That is a beautiful laundry room. I love the curtain to hide the stuff on the shelves. That first laundry room is amazing, but I think yours is a lot more friendly!

  32. Love your great laundry space! You did a fantastic job organizing such a small space. Everything is neat and tidy and has its specific place. Thanks for the inspiration!
