Home Tour

Home-Tour-Simplicity-in-the-South

Welcome to our cozy little home!

Our 1980′s ranch home is 1644 square feet with three bedrooms and two baths. Although our house is small, we love the location and feel lucky that we have wonderful neighbors. Our property sits a football field’s length off the road and backs up to a 7,000 acre state park, so there’s plenty of room for our three boys and our dog to play.

I recently added our home’s paint colors and I’m working on a resource list for each room.

Paint colors- Simplicity in the South Home Tour

1. Sherwin Williams Rivulet SW6760, 2. Sherwin Williams Silver Strand SW7057, 3. Behr Gray Morning 490F-4, 4.Benjamin Moore Gray Cashmere 2138-60, 5. Sherwin Williams Tidewater SW6477, 6. Behr Gobi Desert 710-C3

More details of each room will be added to the room reveal (and rooms in progress) page as we continue to make updates.

All of the updates we have made to our home have been on a real-life budget. If possible, we try to find ways to work with what we have or figure out how to do home improvement projects ourselves to save some money. I love shopping thrift stores, repurposing things I already own, and copying high-end looks on a budget. Life’s too short to be in debt!

Currently, we are working on the kitchen and our covered back porch. We are also planning on building a small workshop this year. Hopefully, we can build it completely from items found on Craigslist and the Habitat for Humanity store. (I’m still trying to convince Mr. Simplicity on the workshop, so wish me luck!)

The Family Room/ Sunroom

My style has evolved over the years, but I would describe it as mix of casual, coastal and vintage-cottage-classic. I love mixing textures and neutrals but adding just a touch of color.

With the help of some family and friends, my husband added our 22′ x 18′ family room when baby #2 came along. I can’t imagine our home without this light-filled room!

Wall color: Gobi Desert 710c-3 by Behr.

We have used this color in the family room, kitchen and living room. All three rooms can be seen from each other, so it helps the rooms flow well together.

 The Kitchen

We are currently working on our kitchen, but this is where we have our drop-station and dining area. I hope to reveal the rest of the kitchen this year.

Guest Bathroom

In person, Sherwin Williams Tidewater 6477 looks very similar to the sample below. It is a light turquoise but has enough grey undertones to keep it from being garish. It reminds me of the color of a Tiffani & Co. box, but lighter.

Our Master Bedroom

I love how changing paint colors can transform a room! Our master bedroom has been painted five times, but I think I’ll put the paint brush down for a little while, at least for our bedroom.

Wall color: BM’s Gray Cashmere  2138-60 color matched and mixed with Sherwin Williams Duration Matte. This color is a blue with gray undertones. It changes with the amount of light in the room.

Master Bathroom {In Progress}

Older homes usually have tiny bathrooms. I’ll be sharing how I keep our bathroom organized soon.

Wall color: Custom color. It’s a perfect light gray with brown undertones. I used Sherwin Williams. I had to mix 3 different paint samples together before I came up with the right shade. It is similar to Sherwin William’s Silver Strand.

Our Teenage Son’s Bedroom

This is our teenage son’s bedroom. He’ll be going off to college soon, so his office-in-a-closet may be used as my craft closet one day. :)

Love your site. I would love to try so many of your ideas. I sure I don’t have the energy you do all that work and kiddos too. You rock girl!

  9. Your home is amazing. Your living/dining area and that wall of windows with the view out back is unbelievable. One look at that and I’m sold! Love your sons’ rooms!! Especially the boards in your teenage sons room! I actually have that pinned from a previous visit here!

I think your starter home is a keeper!

  10. I have to say that your home looks so comfortable and inviting. You’ve done a beautiful job.

  11. Where did you find your extra long shower curtain? JM

    • This is the same curtain that I bought: http://amzn.to/XGQVs7 . I had to hem it by 2 inches, but the pleats make it really easy to look neat since I’m not the greatest seamstress. I’ll warn you, it took forever for the wrinkles to fall out. I was afraid to iron it.

  19. Hi Tricia,
I would love to know where you bought your curtains and rods for your sunroom! We have a wall of windows in our new home and I’d love the same look! Thanks!

    • Hi Sarah! I just sent you an email with all the details. I’ll write a post soon so you can pin it to a Pinterest board. That way, you can go back to the post later. Thanks for asking and I hope the email helps!

  20. Hi-I just found your blog and love your style and colors. Thank you for sharing your paint colors…that is so helpful. I too am a southerner born and bred. We are almost neighbors…I live in central NC just east of Charlotte. We are in the process of restoring, redecorating, repainting, re-everythinging the 1910 farmhouse that I grew up in. It is in good shape for the age. It is a work in progress as the money become available. I will keep checking back to see what new inspiration I can get from you.

  21. Wow! I love your style and what you’ve done with your home! I really admire that you work full-time, take care of a family, and still do so much diy! I found your site through addicted2decorating.com and loved your batten and board project….will be visiting again!

Love you house! Have a question about the hallway – can you tell me about the ceiling light fixture? I am looking for a lantern-like fixture for an eight foot ceiling. Your light fixture looks perfect.

Hi new friend! Your home is a magazine! I love it! You have done an awesome job in creating your home!
I still wait on my dream home.. for now I just dream :)

    • Hi, Symanthia! I’m blushing! It’s funny, but I was showing pictures of one of our rooms to my husband one day and he asked if that was our house. I promise, it’s nothing like a magazine in real life. There’s usually a path of toys and unfinished projects on the floor. :) Thank you for coming by! So glad to meet you today!

  24. Tricia – beautiful blog and terrific pictures. The sunroom has such warmth and clearly offers casual, understated elegance to your home. Thanks for the inspiring story and pics.

  33. I love that you have taken a normal average house and made it extraordinary. This is exactly what I have been looking for. You show how to work with what you’ve got; it’s realistic and attainable. I would love to see more details of your kitchen and master bath before your’re done with them. I can’t afford to update my kitchen and bath, so I’d like to see what someone with talent does with a kitchen and bath while in transition or while waiting. I have literally zero style or decorating skills, so I need help. Thanks so much for sharing. Your creativity is inspiring!
