DIY Projects

I'm stubborn when it come to parting with my money, so if I can find a way to do it myself, I will! Here are a few of my latest projects and there's lots more to come!

$1.00 DIY Industrial Farmhouse Metal Shelf Brackets

Welcome back, friends! Today’s post is special because we get to share our first YouTube tutorial! Jason and I recently made a Ballard Designs inspired shutter shelf and needed metal shelf brackets to complete the project. We couldn’t find anything like our inspiration picture in the store. Etsy has similar ones that are made from 1/4′” thick steel flat bar but they’re at least $12.00 per shelf bracket plus shipping. So, to improvise, we made our own

Catalog Copycat: Ballard Designs Inspired Shutter Shelf

A funny thing happened while my husband, Jason, and I were sitting on the couch last week watching Fixer Upper. During a commercial, Jason starts flipping through the latest Ballard Designs catalog. He sees their shutter shelf for $259.00, looks at me and says, “We could totally make that out of those shutters in the garage.”  He gets all the heart eyes when he comes up with spontaneous projects like that. 😍😍😍 So, we paused the show,

Cheap and Easy DIY Wooden Poster Hangers

You like simple, right? When I say simple, I mean minimal DIY skills needed. And after Christmas shopping has wiped out the bank account, cheap is a huge plus too. In this post, I’ll be showing you how to make simple and inexpensive wooden poster hangers, like the ones I used in Taylor’s rustic & industrial bedroom. I’ll also be sharing where I found some black and white maps on Etsy that are almost identical

How To Make a Lamp Out of an Antique Copper Desk Heater

I don’t know what it is about industrial lighting, but I’ve had the itch to make another unique light since I made the Restoration Hardware inspired pendant light that hung in Taylor’s office-in-a-closet in our last house. When I spied this antique copper desk heater made into a lamp for $290 on Houzz.com, it was love at first sight and I knew I could make a lamp very similar to it myself.  Rustic table lamps design

Welcome back. I’m happy to say Taylor’s small dormer bedroom is finally done! Jason and I began this room several months back as our 1st DIY project together. Let’s rewind to see how the room looked the day I viewed the house… The reason I wanted to

On top of that, we added texture, character, and coziness in this little nook with a rustic planked wall behind the bed and new lighting. Next week, I get to show you the final reveal of Taylor’s Restoration Hardware inspired bedroom.  But first, let us

The Easiest Way to Cover a Popcorn Ceiling

Nothing dates a room quite like a popcorn ceiling. Scraping the popcorn off the ceiling is a reasonably easy DIY project. The problems are it’s messy and you still have to deal with smoothing out any imperfections before you can paint. You also have to be extra cautious if the ceilings were popcorned before 1979 because of the risk of asbestos.  For the dormer bedroom redesign, we decided to cover up the popcorn with planks. This would resemble shiplap and be the easiest option with

Design Plans for the Small Dormer Bedroom

Let me start by telling you why this small dormer bedroom re-design is so special to me. This room represents to me the beginning of a love story. At first, it was my love affair with my new house but then things changed drastically for the better.  And this is how the story goes… Girl gets brave enough to date again. In walks in this 6’3″, bearded man that totally got her when she spoke of
