Stenciled No Sew Drop Cloth Table Runner
Looking for a quick and creative way to dress up a table that also doesn’t cost a lot of money?
I’ve gotcha covered.
This no sew drop cloth table runner can be made in less than an hour and most of the materials were found at The Home Depot, even the mandala stencil.
The beauty of this project is that you can make 4 table runners from one drop cloth and reuse the stencil to your hearts content.
I had no idea that Home Depot sold stencils till I found this in the specialty paint section. It’s really affordable and the mandala pattern is right on trend.

Supplies you’ll need to make a stenciled no-sew drop cloth table runner:
6′ x 9′ drop cloth at Home Depot or on Amazon
Mandala stencil at Home Depot or on Amazon
Painter’s tape
Scissors
Clothing iron
Paint – I used Sherwin Williams Gale Force SW7605
Foam paint roller and tray set
The first thing you’ll want to do is wash the fabric because it tends to shrink. This will also soften it up a little.
Since I wanted the runner to be 16″ wide x 9′ long, I cut the fabric 17-1/2″ to allow for a 3/4″ hem on both sides. You can also make a small cut with your scissors and then simply tear the fabric. You’ll end up with a perfectly straight line and save yourself some time.
Next, fold over the edges about 3/4″. Place the hem tape inside the fold and press with the iron for a few seconds till the material is bonded together. I left the ends of my table runner with the original hem.
Now it’s time to grab your paint and stencil!
You’ll need to protect the surface where you’ll be painting because sometimes the paint seeps through the fabric.
Mark the center of your runner and tape down the stencil using painter’s tape.
The key to painting crisp stencils on fabric is not having too much paint on the foam roller or using too much pressure.
Math makes me dizzy so this is how I spaced out the five stencils that run down the center of the runner.
First, I painted the center stencil. I then painted the ones on each end followed by stencils between the center and ends.
For the stencils on the sides, I centered them on the edge and spaced them about halfway between the center stencils.
Once the paint has time to dry a couple hours, you can throw it in the dryer for about 30 minutes to heat set the paint.
I really love a project like this because there’s no sewing and hardly any cutting or measuring.
And when it’s finished, you have something beautiful that you made with your own 2 hands! I decorated our farmhouse style patio table for our summer cookout with family and friends.
Tell me, have you stenciled anything lately and if you did, do you have any tips to share?
