A Simple Summer Vignette

If you see the decorating for the seasons page, you’ll notice that this spot of the living room gets changed out quite often. I say quite often, but truthfully, I left the boxwood bunny wreath from the Easter display up way after the holiday had passed because I was feeling attached to that little guy.

Since summer is officially here, I did some long-overdue summer decorating for the empire chest that sits by our front door. This chest holds all sorts of decorating items that I rotate throughout the year, so I pulled out anything and everything that reminded me of summer.

I also moved some things from other parts of the room like the Charleston sign I made back in November. You can see the tutorial in this post that gives tips on how to make a vintage-inspired sign from wall planks and a printable template for the lettering.

I decoupaged a free “one franc” printable  from The Graphics Fairy to the french flower bucket that holds hydrangeas from our yard. This is the same galvanized bucket with the printed burlap fall label I used in the Fall display . Speaking of burlap, I sewed this table runner from some left over burlap that I had in my fabric stash. Have I ever told you I can sew a mean straight line?

Summer-decor-ideas-by-Simplicity-in-the-SouthThe glass cloche that I used in the Easter display is now filled with sea shells that we’ve collected over the years including our honeymoon in the Florida Gulf and our recent family vacation to the Bahamas.

I still have a few small pieces of driftwood in a mason jar left over after making the driftwood heart art and vase. The coral that’s sitting in front of the galvanized bucket is actually a resin piece that was bought at the pet store and spray painted off-white.

The Moroccan lanterns have flameless candles inside that are set on a timer. I found them a few years back on Overstock and loved them so much, I bought a set for my mother for her birthday.

So there you have it… a simple summer vignette without having to spend a dime. Ah! Mission accomplished.

  23. Wow! that Summer Vignette is so neat! Isn’t it amazine how other colors look so much brighter against the white? Love all the shells and those Morocan lanterns. Did you get them from Overstock? We use a lot of the flameless candles(battery operated)since there was a major fire in a 3 level apt. bulding about 5 years ago in our Sr. Citizens community. One man died in the fire when the ceiling from 2nd. floor fell on him after he entered his apt. to go back and get something he felt he needed. It cost him his life.

What do you do for a Fall vinette? Fall is fast approaching us. Only a few more weeks of summer. Sure did go by us way too fast this year.
