Vintage inspired guest bathroom reveal by Simplicity in the South
Remember when I hinted at the end of my hallway reveal that my next room makeover would be our guest bathroom? Well, today’s the day I get to share it with you!

Some of the changes like the new wall color and vanity makeover were made recently. Other (more time-consuming and expensive) changes, such as the granite countertop, new tile floor and wainscoting were made long before I started blogging.

I’ll follow up with tutorials, but today I’ll show you how we worked with what we had and used mostly accessories and paint to transform the room.

I liked the room before but I was ready for a change from the brown vanity and wall color. The old wall paint had permanent streaks that would show up even more when someone would take a shower.

The manager at our local Sherwin Williams store helped me narrow down the wall color choice to Tidewater, a light blue-green with just a hint of gray undertones.

Sherwin Williams was kind enough to furnish a gallon of their Emerald paint and I was impressed with how well one coat covered over the old tan paint. I even had my husband look for places that might need a second coat but one coat was enough. I followed the manager’s advice to wipe down the walls before I repainted and to give the paint 24 hours to fully dry before using the shower. This would prevent the new paint from having the streaking problem we had before.

The color combination of turquoise and red was inspired by Hiya Papaya’s home tour featured on House of Turquoise.

If you follow me on Pinterest, then you know how much I love vintage signs. I made a reproduction Burma Shave sign reminiscent of the ones that were found along historic Route 66 from the 1920’s to the 1960’s.

The first time I ever landed on Miss Mustard Seed’s blog was on her bathroom reveal post. It was blog-love-at-first-sight. I thought her idea to use wire baskets hung on the wall was pretty brilliant so I used her idea to keep towels over the toilet.

The picture frame moulding and glass tile border was a project I did five years ago. It was applied directly over the existing wall and really helps to brighten up the bathroom and add some architectural interest. Also at that time, we had someone come in and professionally refinish our tub enclosure to change the color from yellow to white.

I also love how the vanity was transformed with Maison Blanche’s La Craie paint and these beautiful blue glass knobs.Gray bathroom cabinet with Santa Cecilia granite countertop

Our bathroom is only a 6′ x 8′, so putting a shelf over the door gives us extra storage space. One of the baskets is just for over-night guests. It holds extra towels, wash cloths, and basic toiletries they may have forgotten to bring.

I made the soap dispenser from a vintage Burma Shave jar. The Dr. Kennedy’s Favorite Remedy bottle was one of many bottles I found in the backyard of the 1920’s Craftsman we lived in when I was in high school.

These decoupaged vintage label jars are the perfect size to fit on a shelf that I painted with Miss Mustard Seed’s Milk Paint over Annie Sloan’s Chalk Paint. The repainted shelf was my first project using the milk paint since I went to Marion’s paint class back in March. I love the chippy and crackled effect I got after experimenting with a few techniques.

So, there you have it! After 4 different types of paint and a few vintage-inspired accessories, we now have a much brighter and more colorful bathroom, don’t you think? One last before and after picture so you can see how far it’s come in the past month and a half…

How about you? Do you lean towards keeping everything neutral or do you go bold with colorful accents?

Although Sherwin Williams supplied the paint, all the opinions expressed are my own. As seen from the home tour, we already use their paint throughout most of our home and trust the quality of their products.
