Our teenage son, Taylor, will be back home from my parents’ tomorrow and I can’t wait to see him! He starts his senior year of high school in four days…hard to fathom for me. In my last post, I showed you the mood board and inspiration links for his bedroom. After few minor road blocks along the way,
I’m ready for the reveal.
Taylor’s room is only 10×10. It also has to serve as a guest room, so the pop-up trundle underneath turns his single bed to a king. This bed frame was part of a bunk bed in its former life. It had a cheap metal frame that I covered in bead board. The colors I used in his room are pulled from his quilt and shams: a smokey blue, gray, navy, and khaki.
The majority of the budget was spent on the plank walls. I found my inspiration East Coast Creative’s How to Build a Pallet Wall and Creative Little Daisy’s Palletless Pallet Wall Tutorial. Next time, I need to remind myself to, “Measure twice, go to Lowes once.” I miscalculated how many packs of planks I would need and ended up spending twice as much as originally planned. If you would like more details on how I did the planked walls, click here. Underneath the desk are 2 of these Anotonius drawer units from Ikea that hold all of his clothes. The boxes on the shelf above his desk store out-of-season clothes and sentimental items.
I made this pendant light that hangs in his closet/office. I had planned on buying the one in the moodboard, but I was able to find the parts and make it much cheaper. Tutorial on the light is here!

But, it is all well worth it! I love how it turned out! I just hope Taylor likes his room as much as I do when he sees it tomorrow. And he better appreciate all of his mother’s hard work!

OK, the curtain rods from galvanized pipes are exactly what I want to do in my son’s room. Looking forward to the tutorial on that so I don’t have to figure it out myself!
Then, that will be my next post! I have some tips on how to do it cheaper and a little easier than what I found online when I had researched it. And I’ll be glad to help you if you have any questions after the tutorial.

Your son’s room is incredible! Our youngest (13) loves the closet/office/work station. His room is 9×11 so it is similar in size… and to think I have a bunch of palettes on hand which we can cut up to use for a plank wall. Thank you for the great inspiration! This may even be something we can do in our eldest’s room before he heads off to college next fall (he took off a year to save up so that he won’t have any debt when he graduates from college!)
